Quick Valentine (Love) Writing Activity - Freebie

Hello Friends!

I know that we celebrated Valentine's Day last week and are well on our way to other things, but I thought I would still share this quick and easy Valentine/Love writing activity.

I printed the writing sheet and stapled it to white construction paper. I then told my kiddos that they were to SKETCH at least 4 things on the other side of the paper that either had hearts on them OR were something that they love. After sketching their pictures, they were then to write at least 4 sentences that told about their picture. I always love this time of year because I start to see so much progress in their learning!

This little guy is one of my ESL kiddos and I am so proud of what he can do! Even though he wrote the word see as "c", you can tell that he is getting the idea! His sentences match his picture and he has periods at the end of each sentence! Yay! (I will admit that he had my Thursday helper sitting with him, but still... this is great, I think!)

Lent For Little Kids and an Ash Wednesday Freebie

Hi Friends,

For all my Catholic/Christian School friends, you know that Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday and we begin the long season of Lent. I used to dread teaching Lent to my kiddos because  the material that I could find was above their understanding. There is some really good Catholic/Christian material in the world, but just not enough for little kids.

My kinders are excited to receive ashes on Ash Wednesday, but also a little apprehensive. So, I created this little activity that we do every year in preparation of what is to come.

You can find this Ash Wednesday freebie on a Google doc that you can find HERE.

(Please note that many school districts block outside sites. If this is true of your school, please download from home. If you receive a request for me to "allow access", that is probably what your school district does. The settings for this freebie are set for unlimited access to anyone.)

I also do a Lenten book with my students. It is based on the letters in the word LENT.

If you would like the entire LENT packet, you can find it at my TPT store by clicking the link below.

I also revised my "The Passion of Jesus" resource. In this packet, children create a half-sized booklet of the events that led to the resurrection of Jesus; all written in terms that little ones can understand. I do not provide any scriptural reference in my religious packets because of all the varied versions of the Bible. My resources are a SUPPLEMENT to your present religion curriculum.

You can find "The Passion of Jesus" packet in my TPT store by clicking the image below.

So, now my friends.... Enjoy those sweets because Lent will be here soon!

Until next time!

Fun Valentine Draw, Write, Create Freebie

Hello Friends,

I thought I would share with you a fun Valentine Draw and Write activity that I do with my students every year.  It includes a little bit of artistic creation, fine motor practice, counting, and writing! What more could you want? :)

First we review the step by step directions.

Then we look at the recording sheet. I tell my students to create their animal upon the sheet. Upon completion, they are to write the name of their animal and then count the hearts they used to create their animal and write that number upon their recording sheet. This is TOTALLY independent work in my class, but it could easily be a directed drawing lesson!

Voila! A cute and easy LEARNING activity for your little ones!

If you would like the Google doc for this freebie, click HERE.
(If you have difficulty downloading this Google doc, try the tips found HERE in this tutorial.)

Here is how I teach my kinders to draw a heart:

Five For Friday...... Polar Bears, Circus, and other randomness......

Hello Friends!

This is going to be a quick post because my daughter is here for the weekend and I want to spend the evening with her! Yay!

I thought I would join in Five For Friday and post five VERY random thoughts......

1.  We finished our polar animal unit - Whew! It was long! One thing that I love to do is to hang a real life sized polar bear from the ceiling and take a picture of the kids standing next to it. They really get a sense of size!
2.  In our school, each grade level is asked to do a service project. In kindergarten, we perform a circus to raise money for POLAR BEARS INTERNATIONAL. It's such a great experience for our kiddos! They learn about the plight of the polar animals. They get a history lesson about the circus and they develop public speaking skills and self-confidence.  The day of the circus, our kids participate in a circus parade through the halls of our school. All the school kids bring coins to school and drop them into bags that some of our "circus performers" are carrying. When we arrive in our 3-RING CIRCUS arena, our audience is already seated and ready for the performance. We collect donations from parents and friends that we send to Polar Bears International. This year we collected $526.08! Wow!

3.  It was our 100th day of school on Monday! There are SO MANY awesome resources for the 100th day of school...... I am just sharing this one idea that I think is so cute....

4.  One thing that I did with my kids when they were little was teach them to cook and bake. It was my son's birthday on Tuesday and yes, he baked this chocolate/raspberry torte for his birthday! (The plate is not so pretty, but the cake is beautiful!)

5. Oh my.... I am so tired of cold, and snow, and winter..... bleh......
